New York, USA
- Commencement of Engagement
23 October 2019
- Engagement Overview
The engagement between NITI Aayog and UNICEF aims to build integrated social protection for India through micro-simulation of social-protection schemes implemented for different social groups. A study is being carried out by the Economic Policy Research Institute (EPRI), Cape Town, South Africa--which is a technical partner of UNICEF. NITI Aayog’s role is to provide technical support through an advisory group and a technical group.
- Involvement of Indian Ministries/Gov Bodies
A working group was constituted with representatives from the Ministries of Women and Child Development, Social Justice and Empowerment, Tribal Affairs, Youth Affairs and Sports, Health and Family Welfare, Labour and Employment, Rural Development and Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities.
The working group is led by Vice Chairman, NITI Aayog, and the technical group by Adviser (Social Justice and Empowerment). The groups provide expert and independent views on the micro-simulation study from a technical, contextual and methodological perspective. They also provide advice on developing an integrated social protection framework for India.
The groups work as a standing forum to review the existing approach, strategies, policies and priorities of ongoing programmes or any other issues related to social protection in India.
Two meetings were held for finalising the methodology and approach for the study. The methodology was finalised and circulated among members for further comments. The first phase of the study is expected to be completed by September 2020. UNICEF has shared the inception report with NITI Aayog.
