Overview

The Governance & Reforms Division of NITI Aayog is responsible for advancing long-term, systemic transformation in governance across sectors. Established on 3 April 2025, the Division works on structural and cross-cutting reforms critical to India’s journey towards Viksit Bharat @2047. Its approach goes beyond incremental improvements to promote institutional reforms that make government more responsive, efficient and adaptable.

By bringing together regulatory, administrative, economic and justice-related reforms, it seeks to strengthen the foundations of a future-ready, agile and citizen-focused governance ecosystem, while reducing unnecessary complexity and improving public service delivery.

Core Functions

The Governance & Reforms Division works towards strengthening the effectiveness, efficiency and responsiveness of governance systems and institutions through structural, administrative and process reforms. The Division engages with Ministries/Departments, States, experts and other stakeholders to identify systemic challenges and develop reform-oriented approaches aimed at promoting trust-based governance, Ease of Doing Business and Ease of Living, building future-ready institutions and workforce capabilities for a future-ready governance ecosystem.
