The Youth Affairs & Sports Division serves as the nodal policy division within NITI Aayog for promoting sports excellence, physical literacy, youth development and volunteerism in alignment with the vision of Viksit Bharat @2047. The Division undertakes policy research, strategic planning and inter-governmental coordination to strengthen India's sports ecosystem and empower young people as active contributors to nation-building.
The Division supports evidence-based policymaking and monitors key national initiatives by working closely with the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, State Governments, Sports Authority of India (SAI), National Sports Federations, educational institutions, civil society organisations and private sector partners. It focuses on creating an inclusive, athlete-centric and youth-driven ecosystem that promotes grassroots participation, sporting excellence, healthy lifestyles, innovation and meaningful youth engagement across the country.

- Policy Research & Analysis:
Undertake evidence-based studies and policy research on sports, physical education, youth development and volunteerism to support national and state-level decision-making.
- Policy Advisory & Programme Design:
Provide strategic inputs for formulation, implementation and evaluation of policies, schemes and institutional reforms relating to youth affairs and sports.
- Inter-governmental Coordination:
Facilitate collaboration among Central Ministries, State Governments and Union Territories to accelerate implementation of national priorities and promote cooperative and competitive federalism.
