Overview

The Information Technology (including Frontier Technologies) and Telecommunication Division at NITI Aayog is the nodal Division responsible for matters pertaining to the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, the Department of Telecommunications and the Department of Posts. It promotes the aim of the realisation of different programs/schemes of the line Ministries, such as Digital India, BharatNet, IndiaStack (including Aadhaar, Unified Payments Interface (UPI), DigiLocker), for a broad impact on digital infrastructure, financial inclusion, and citizen-centric services nationwide. The Division provides policy incentives for a robust, secure, and inclusive infrastructure, ensuring transparent and efficient service delivery through technology adoption.
Division through Frontier Technology Hub contributes to India’s digital transformation by raising awareness and advocacy for Frontier Technologies, including Artificial Intelligence (AI), Blockchain, Quantum Computing, and Biotechnology etc. The Hub fosters innovation, promotes advanced technologies, and positions India as a global leader in targeted initiatives through close coordination with the line Ministries.

Core Functions
  • Evaluate and provide comments on project reports/ proposals, policy references, schemes, Cabinet/CCEA notes, SFC/EFC/PIB/PSC/DCC notes, policy submissions and participate in the Committee meetings of the line ministries.
  • Assess existing initiatives and strategies at national and sub-national levels in consultation with DMEO. Also, recommend mid-course corrections for greater impact, improve service delivery, and strengthen sectoral outcomes.
  • Draft strategic papers on digital inclusion, infrastructure investment, telecom growth and innovation.
  • Driving joint research initiatives and expert consultations with leading institutions and partners across digital governance, tech development, and telecom economics etc.
